Are the new 9-balde props on the C-130 more efficient?

I've seen a few pictures of them and they really look weird.  They look like a bigger version of the props on our subs - curved.  The curved props on the subs are supposed to allow a sub to travel faster underwater without cavitating.

Never seen any 8 bladed props on a herc.  We heard about them, but thats all.  Our J's have 6 bladed props????  They are some type of carbon composit material that makes it easyer to fix I guess.

The C-130J uses a General Electric 6 bladed R391 propeller in conjuction with the Rolls-Royce AE 2100D3 turboprop.  This system is lighter (30% less), more efficient. requires less maintenance (50% fewer parts) and is much quieter.



The Hamilton-Sunstrand NP2000 used on the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye (see below) is a similar design but in eight-bladed format.  Since this system is a direct replacement for the old the HS 54H60 propeller system used on the T-56 powered C-130s and E-2/C-2, it may be retrofitted to older or foreign C-130s and E-2s.

It should be noted that the Hamilton-Sunstrand 54H60 is pretty much the military "standard" prop, it is used on the P-3, C-130, E-2 and the C-2, the major propeller aircraft in the inventory
