I wish I could find him - I last saw him in '71 when Sherman stopped at Newport Navy Base. He had made full CDR & I suppose was stationed there after they wouldn't let him pull another Vietnam tour. He came aboard Sherman to see how many of the Vietnam crew were still there. Luckily, the people on the quarterdeck were all from the Vietnam crew & gave him a proper welcome. He was piped aboard as "NOW COMMANDER CHAPLAIN CORPS UNITED STATES NAVY, THE REVEREND BOB BORDEN ARRIVING"
I haven't run across anyone other than my old shipmates who knew him, & have had no luck in locating him.

Now here's a shot taken as Sherman relieved on an ocean station (Delta, I believe) some time after our return from Vietnam. It is so heart warming to see the warm greetings we often got from the ships we relieved.
I believe the intended sentiment was "Adieu My Friends"          ROTF

Several pages ago, there was a beautiful color shot of CGC Eagle under sail. The only time I was near enough to Eagle at sea, the fog was so dense that color would have been a waste, so I took this black and white shot.

I guess it is good that I took so much B & W, because so far I have not been able to afford a scanner that will handle slides, & a majority of my color shots are slides.

AMF ... "Adieu My Friends" NOW THAT'S FUNNY   ROTF  ROTF

JERRY, love the pics and black and white for us old timers is appropriate.  I just noticed on your warrant photo is that a bronze star on your vietnam service ribbon.  If it is I need to revise your ribbon rack.

ON PHOTOS:  You can resize your big photos when you upload them to your photo bucket account by using the options function to resize to 640 x 480 for a medium size or 800 x 600 for a large size photo.

If you forget to use photobucket to resize you can use the usmilnet boards to resize. I resized your photos by adding after the first [img width=700 so your image code to downsize looks like this:

Code:

Neat photos Jerry; bet Thor would really enjoy the Navy helo on a CG Cutter  LMAO LMAO.   A few years ago I bought a pretty cheap Microtek scanner that had an attachment to scan slides.  For a cheap scanner, it does pretty good; when I start out with a good quality original it does real good.  Problem is, a lot of my slides have really faded over the years and I'm working on digitizing them before they're lost.  Am on the road, so don't have the model number at hand; if you remind me this weekend I'll let you know.  When I say cheap, I'm talking under $200 about three or four years ago.  Keep posting  Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Thanks, Deb,
but I have found almost everything I have tried on Google, & although I try periodically in several different ways, I have never found any reference to the Reverend Bob - except for some of my own posts asking about him. Since we have subscribed to Ancestry.com, I plan to try him on there, but while they have tons of information, their search engine is the most totally useless I have ever found.

If you know what schools he attended you could try Classmates.com and maybe figure out what years he was in school if you know his age.

The other thing you can do is try whitepages.com or peoplefinders.com.

good luck Hug

and here we have the unusual situation of four (4) 378' cutters tied up at CG Base Boston at the same time during 1971.

Man, with all of us former FFS sailors retiring there, the place is going to get crowded fast, real estate values will soar, and the poor Hawaiian Monk Seals with have to compete with humans for beach time.    Grin  Not to mention, one would have to wake really early to do any decent beach combing. LOL

Afraid its not possible for the public to visit these days, its part of the Hawaiian Wildlife Refuge, and you need special permission.

Still, its fun to talk over fun times with other FFS sailors.
