I'm not sure I could deal with a mahogany panelled bridge.  Musta been some of that extra "brass" money you guys had.  How the hell did he ever get approval to do that; or did he bother asking??

Probably never asked.  Could have been some of that "brass" money though..... ROTF ROTF ROTF

Yeah Deb, it's true, Gunnies don't need to know how to type.  They just need to be able to stick the ammo in the hole and know how to pull the trigger....  Evil

Seeing that photo of the old wood-hulled 83's got me to thinking about this recruiting poster.

Trust us - some of us don't know how we did it either... we just did.
Part of it may be our traditions... such as

"You have to go out, you don't have to come back" (SAR)
"So used to doing more with less, that we're finally able to do everything with nothing" (Budget Shortfalls)
"I'm on a new ship... the navy just gave us it"  (Commission in 30's but new to us)

But we learned, adapted, a completed our missions; and were/are better folks for it.

Thank you for your nice words - no suck up thoughts occured to me... it's just nice to hear some one think well of our service and not think we're not as good or military as the BIG BOYS!  \Smiley

Best Wishes

Hey Hans and Gunner - maybe some day we'll get a P.I. reunion going... I suggest Vegas or Reno, not only because I'm a gambler... but with the number of pettie, slim, asian women present we'd feel like were back in Cavite!

Best Wishes

Was on board her in Vietnam (Da Nang - visiting, not stationed).  Two Navy hydrofoils; the Flagstaff and the Tucomcari (sp).  If I remember right one of them got one of their foils shot out from under them coming down river (could be bad memory or urban legend).  Have a picture of them tied up in Da Nang; will post as soon as I find it.

Not a great shot, but here's a picture of the Flagstaff and the Tucomcari tied up in Da Nang while they still belonged to the Navy.  Go on the bridge of one of those things and you'd think you were on an airplane.

That empty spot behind them is where we tied up.

I think I saw at least one of them while I was there too.

Somehow I don't think my wife would be in favor of me making a return to the Phillipines.  Told her too many stories!   ROTF ROTF ROTF

Buoyjumper- I have e-mail addresses for some guys I knew while I was on the Planetree.  Would you like me to ask if they have any pics you could use for your website?

That would be great Stan and I appreciate the offer.  However, please wait until I get the site up.  Still waiting for a programmer friend of mine to finish some prelims for the site and then come over to the house and show me the ropes on how to manage the site, download photos, change boards, etc.
