Here's a couple of pics of my A school class at Groton in 65-66. If anyone out there is part of this class, give me a holler.

I like the look. I didn't mind being mistaken for Navy...but I wasn't very many places where there was much of a Navy presence except Groton/New London but most of my time in Michigan on the lakes. Towns like Alpena, Bay City, Sault Ste. Marie, Port Huron, Paradise, Houghton, Cheboygan,  all the good spots.

Yup those uniforms since then kind of leave one guessing...Air France uniforms? Air Force? Alaska Airlines? Rent a Cop?...anyway, we all thought we were pretty salty, even the great lake sailors.

I have a bunch of pictures of Groton Training Center. Sent some of Avery Point Lighthouse from 64 to Jim Streeter who was heading up the restoration. It is all restored now and lit..looks cool. Google it and you'll see how good it looks. I used to stand watch that took me to the lighthouse on dark and stormy nights...was spooky..especially just after leaving the dungeon in the basement of the mansion...that's another story.

Well, another old story debunked.  When I went through GM school in Groton in 1962, the story was that the original owners were the Planters Peanuts people and had agreed to let the CG use the base, charging $1 a year rent,  as long as they would maintain the light.

Looks like this thread has dropped to the back burner.
The picture of the CGC Pendant in the "Coast Guard News" topic reminded me that I had a Boston Globe clipping of me doing a LORAN-C demonstration on the Pendant in, I believe, 1973. This is not a good scan, & maybe I can redo it later, but for what its worth - here it is.

Pendant still looks the same as she did then. I wish I did.

You're right Jerry, this thread needs a little kick start; you got me going back to my scanner (to everyone's delight  ROTF LMAO)  Here's trouble, the Motley Crew that wasn't a rock band:

L to R; QM3 Hughes, RD2 Dekle, BM3 Burke, me, SN Jazakowiz (sp?), QM3 Bigelow.

Here's BM3 Burke at work; he was a stereotype "Old Guard" BM brought up under the wing of BMCM Monts:
