Hey Hans,

Take a look at the signal flags.  Is it my imagination or did they just hang them (starting on the right) in alphabetical order?  The ones on the left I'm not sure what they did.

The ones on stbd. start with alpha and end with hotel, the ones on port start with india and end in papa (all in alphabetical order); I'm thinking there's something green over the india flag on the port side, but not sure what it is.

I hope you are properly impressed that an old GM would even recognize them thar flags....

Actually I know just enough of the flags to figure out they must have been in order.   LMAO

The Blackhaw wouldn't go ANYWHERE that didn't have a bar.

I recall the Commandant called up the C.O., said "I need you to get over to this place and work some buoys."  C.O. said "Does it have a bar?"  Commandant said "No, it DOES NOT have a bar!  It has buoys that need maintaining, dammit!!!"  C.O. said "Blow it out yer ass Admiral, my crew don't go where there ain't no bars!"

And that's a no ****ter........

Islands with bars just about caused the end of my happy time in the Coast Guard. We were carrying the officials for the Port Huron to Mackinac Island yacht race in 1966 or so. When we finally got to the end of the race, I was "volunteered" for Shore Patrol duty. Well let me tell you, those yacht sailors new how to show their appreciation to us coasties. After my SP partner and I had gone aboard the 4th or 5th yacht and been properly thanked by accepting a few .... well possibly alcoholic drinks.... on duty, we were feeling really appreciated. About that time one of our shipmates stole the state cop's bicycle (no vehicles alowed on the island except bicycles and horse drawn wagons), and my best buddy was three sheets to the wind in the Pink Pony bar...somehow or the other I ended up in the state cops face telling him he was NOT going to throw my polack buddy (a CS-2 who has a picture of himself in one of these threads) in the jail for stealing his bike or being drunk or whatever...well we found ourselves down on the dock in front of the ACACIA and the old man comes out and relieves me of SP duty, talks the cop out of throwing the cook in jail and I am super mad at my SP partner who was a cook striker because he appeared to be taking the cop's side.  All that to say, when there is a bar on an island, it was bad news for me. constipated

There are some great pictures here.  I would love to have them over at the Coast Guard Channel.  I know my viewers would love to see them and although there is some cross-over between the two sites (USMILNET and Coast Guard Channel) but there are a lot of viewers that don't frequent this board and I'm sure vice versa.

Come on folks - send the photos in - and if you have enough we can look at creating your own page on the Channel.

Check out the photos here:

http://www.coastguardchannel.com/cgi-bin/content/photos.pl The submission link is at the top of the page.

The link to the MyCG pages (an area we're really growing) can be found here:

Thanks Susan.

Linking to you in our links section is a great idea.  Surprised you're not there yet. Doesn't quite fit the format of our photos section though.  That's why I'm hoping that I'll get some of you folks to submit our way, too.

Just an observation as I'm sitting here Sunday evening after a full day.   I genuinely appreciate all the pictures that are posted here, Fred's Place, Coast Guard Channel, etc. Brings back many memories. One thing I noticed though is that except for skin color, we all kind of looked alike way back when...kids...all of us.
