Finally got around to replacing some trees..last year we cut every tree down that could possibly hit our house during a storm.

Yes this probably increase my electric bill a little ..i live in florida ac and shade is important..but i would rather pay more for ac than replace a roof or worse.

We have some beautiful oaks at the bottom of our place ( i live on a hill , not easy to find here most of fla is flat)
at the bottom of the driveway.

and plenty of trees in the backyard..we own 5 ac..anyways the trees we replaced were wateroaks and live oaks..we decided on replacing them with crape myrtles we bought 2 this time about 7ft tall..one white one red and place them infront of the birdbath/water fountain ..i am fairly happy with my home so far but i do want a garden in the backyard ..but right now i don't have the time..if i ever really retire ..i believe that will be my next job..gardening.

I love cars (trucks even more)..not to change the subject..but i love my home more..would,nt trade it for a corvette or even a pool home..its beautiful and in a nice area..not much crime..something that is hard to find nowadays especially in the sunshine state.

Aww... thanks you guys. I am trying to keep my car as close to stock as possible, although shhh... don't tell anyone, but she was originally a really ugly bathroom blue/green.  This is her prior paint job.

Sunny, hot day up here in the last frontier. Wife is doing laundry and I am getting ready to write a paper for a job. Yeah, one school district wants a 5-10 page paper. That should keep me busy for a couple of hours at most. Oh, well, I guess I have put if off long enough...time to get to work. Cool

RAIN! Oh, yes. Something that isn't so hot! Should be a nice cool day today. But nothing more to do than yesterday, oh, well. Cool

Finnally rode my motorcycle ..I try to ride at least every other weekend somewhere..its not good for any vehical to sit to long..battery , stale gas ..etc.

If i had it to do again..i might make the carport on the side of the house a tad bigger..the bike sometimes sits in the weather..i locked the steering one time..and did,nt ride for a while..i wasted a can of pb blaster and wd-40 trying to get the dang lock to unlock..it would,nt i finnally drilled the center of the lock to get it to release.

I have 3 vehicles..a 94 ford taurus a 87 dodge dakota truck ..and this bike.

I perfer to ride the truck to work, for one thing i like to leave the wife a source of transportation (we a good ways from civilization) and she likes her automatic over my stick 4 speed stick..and does,nt have a motorcycle endorsement.

so far though all in all the bike is doing exactly what i want..getting me to point a to point b..when the truck is down for what ever reason..which ain't often thankfully.

Went to our company picnic. It rained for the first half hour, but the sun came out, and it was glorious. Plus, the friend that I brought to the picnic won a door prize-- a DVD video camera. I was so happy for her because she and her husband's home got burglarized, and her video camera was stolen.

I believe you will find ..most commands have there CoastGuard picnics on the nearest saturday to the actual day..example the nearest saturday this month is aug 1st since CG day falls on the following tuesday only 3 days away/afterwards..now if CG day fell on a thursday or a friday then the saturday following it either the 3rd or 4th would have the picnic.

This way the command does,nt have to let people off work.

Anyways that theory has worked for me now going on 10 yrs .

If anyone here gets the military channle ..there having a show on august 4th ..called the CG at war ..i am recording it since i am going on vacation.

Yes Vacation..I am lucky BLessed

I,ll tell you all about it..when i get back..have a beer on me. http://www.markfiore.com/political/beerplomacy

George who used to stop by here and maybe some of you ,might like this slide show.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32209151/ns/business-autos

It's about RV's and the people who love them..i don't own one. George doe's and My brother David sold his house and lives in one full time..i was surprised reading on the web somewhere once..How popular that trend is even in today economy.

check out the 58 Edsel pulling the 62 redone camper on the 1st page..nostagic good times.

I do have a sorta interest in them ..for some reason ..i sorta like the T@b's and the tear drops...maybe the ones that ride in the bed of the pickup's.

But..at last..my wife does,nt like camping..I have talked her into staying at military bases while where vacationing..wierd ..uh maybe..but check them out first before you judge.

i gotta go..POST SOMETHING.

Hey Spacecowboy,

If you could just get your wife to take a trip (maybe a weekend) in one, I bet she'd love it.  I, too, REFUSE to camp...sleep on ground, tent as only protection, no bathroom! EEWWW!  Hubby, on the other hand, loves it.  Our compromise is a 32' fifth wheel trailer.  Absolutely fabulous way to see the country.  With the newer rv's and trailers, there are slide-outs...ours gives us a 12 foot wide living room (bigger than some gov't housing units we've been in).  Anyway, once my hubby got me into traveling in the trailer, I wouldn't change it for the world.  I no longer worry about who or what was last in the hotel room we get, or if the hotel will allow the dog, etc. etc.  Our last move was across the entire country and we were in it for 6 weeks with 3 kids and a dog.  Surprise, surprise, no one got hurt! LOL  The other thing that is a HUGE comfort to me is that when/if we get evacuated for a hurricane, I have plenty of room to take my precious things when we leave and that should the unthinkable happen, we will still have a place (of sorts) to live.

By the way, love your sense of landscaping...we did the same thing up here in NC.

As my father (YNC ret.) says all the time why he has an RV that is as big as a house....

My wife comes from a family of campers.  They traveled all over the country pulling a Holiday Rambler trailer with their family of five.  To me camping was sleeping in a tent with a Coleman lantern and cook stove.  But to Sherry camping was pulling a house behind the Suburban complete with A/C, shower, t.v./VCR and a nice comfortable bed to sleep on with no bugs.  So when Sherry and I moved to Texas we bought a 29-foot Nomad travel trailer.  Had a lot of great times "camping" with her folks in their big Executive motor coach from the late 1970's through the late 1980's.  We've camped from Dallas to Atlanta and all points south of that route.  Camped in Fort Wilderness at Disney Orlando and that was a lot of fun.  We've camped all along the Gulf coast and just about every summer in south Texas at either Port Aransas, Galveston or South Padre Island seashore.  Just about twice a month during the summer we would camp at Lake Texoma on the Oklahoma-Texas border for boating, fishing and swimming.  I'll have to tell you about my first time ever camping when we were still living in New Jersey but I'll save that for another day.  What brought our camping to an end was the kids growing up and giving us hell when we wanted to get away and they wanted to stay home.  I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.

I really think that this trailer camping has brought our family much closer together.  Wish we could have afforded one a bit sooner...we really spend sooooo much quality time together when we go out exploring.  While stationed in CA, we went on a 1 month "tour of the Southwest," saw the London Bridge in AZ, went to Davis-Montham Air Base and saw the airplane Boneyard, went to the Painted Desert and the Gila Cliff Dwellings, camped on the Colorado River which was very cool...the campsite was maybe 10 feet from the river.  We have met so many really nice people and just been able to get to enjoy our kids.  Next year, the plan is to do a tour of Civil War Battlefields.  Another big benefit is the cost: we have yet to spend more than $45/night to accomodate the 5 of us and our dog!

We bought a travel trailer when I got into black powder shooting.  Used it to go to black powder rendezvous as well as regular camping trips.  Built some awesome memories.  Finally sold it when the kids were old enough that they had summer jobs.

On the other hand, the first couple times I had to back it into a tight space we damn near got a divorce!   ROTF
