TAPS for CG-40426

The two photos above are from the collection of EM2 veteran Carl Sarnoff.  According to Carl the 40426 was lost in the spring of 1972 at Sand City, Monterey Bay responding to a false Mayday. The crew swam ashore, called it in from a payphone.  Later it was hauled off on a flatbed truck with help from Ft. Ord engineers.

Ken Sutherland's photos of CGSTA New York's 40394

What appears to be the end for 40394 but later she's rescued from being scrapped.

Zoomer - there was a 40' buoy boat made that looks just like the one in the photo, however according to my book the boats were numbered 40365 D ro 40368 D. A more confusing mystery is the 40400, the only boat with that number that I can recall is the double ended 40 that was designed for ice operations in Deaths Door and Green Bay. The one listed does not look like the one I recall and my registry only shows that boat listed .

Jack .... we covered the story behind the 40300 back on page three of this thread.
Here's the
LINK

Here's some more photos of that rather odd forty from the collection of Frank (Wack)erle
from when Wack was stationed on the 180-foot buoy tender WOODBINE.

Actually Zoomer the 40300 was built at CG Yard prior to WW2 as a steel replacement for the wooden 36-foot MLB.  Because of the war further development was suspended and just that one unit was built.  Following the war the design was used as a prototype for developing the 44-foot MLB.

For the New Year a companion to Bugsey's CG-40450 is unveiled in New York.  At this time the number of the boat has not been revealed by its' owner.

The photos of "CG-Mystery" were taken from the 40450 and Bugsey in describing what we are seeing said, "the pics of the new boat with Ken and Tony coming up the Arthur Kill with the 450 escorting her ..... what a site 2-40's side by side in the Kill 48 years later.  Tug boats were blowing there horns as they passed us some guys took pics from the bridge, and thats what makes it all worth while and all 188 members who ran them, in the 40 boat sailors group. I hope we started somthing here that never dies."

More photos of the "CG-Mystery"
